2024 was a season of near misses by Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadier). In 2025, the Italian aims to turn the podium into a victory, and his eyes are directed to Milan - San Remo and Paris-Rubé.
Having won 2nd place in the World Championships and Olympic time trials and a bronze medal in team pursuit at the Paris Games, Gana wants more.
When asked in an interview with La Gazzeta dello Sport whether he would choose to win Milan Sanremo or Paris Roubaix, Ganna simply said: "This is not the time to choose, it's the time to win."
"This is the goal for next season and we will win as much as possible," Ganna said of Giro dello Sport. - Added after the season that brought three victories: the 14th stage of Italy, the 4th stage of the Austrian Tour and the Italian National Time Trial Championship.
The 2024 season will equal his lowest in terms of victory since joining the ineos Grenadiers in 2019. That fact is probably not surprising given that 2024 was also the worst-ever victory for the British team. Gunna was not attracted to commenting on the team's predicament this year, but said that the structural changes made in the team would bring the desired benefits.
"I hope they will bear the fruit they should. I think about pedaling, about expressing myself completely on the bike," he said.
Having split the time between focusing on the track of the Paris Olympics in 2024 and racing with the Ineos Grenadiers, Gana on putting his full weight on the road in 2025
He confirmed that the main goals for next season are Milan San Remo and Paris Roubaix, but it is not. Ahead of defeating the world's top riders in their titles
"I always have a phenomenon against me, since Pogacal,Van der Poel,Van Aert, Evenepoel...That's what they are. The battle between the Titans," Ganna said.
The 28-year-old finished second to Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick-Step) in both the 2024 World Championships and the Olympic time trial in 2nd place. He wants to change his coach for 2025 and make sure that he is now working with Dajo Sanders, not Dario Sioni, and that he can continue to make progress to fill the gap with the best riders in the world.
"The good thing beyond success and defeat is that I have always made progress," he said.
While focusing on the 2025 road, Ganna did not rule out a return to the velodrome in the future, suggesting the possibility of tilting the track for the World Championships and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Gunna also continues to use the track for training, saying it will help him perform certain efforts.
"Track training remains in my program to do loads that I can't sustain on the road. Extra help and stimulation for the effort, you can say it."
" Los Angeles 2028... I haven't thought about it yet. There are several possibilities: time trials, roads and tracks. To be honest, it would be nice if you could even reach the 10th World Championship on the track.
"And this year I got goosebumps when I saw Michael Morkov's farewell on the circuit and on the velodrome. Who knows, one day..."
