Organizers have confirmed that 2025 Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana will go ahead after it killed more than 200 people last month and affected hundreds of thousands of people.
The race, which has been used for many years as a form finder for the world's best men's general classification riders, will be held between 5 and 9 May.
Brandon McNulty scored an early season victory for the UAE team Emirates after winning solo in Stage 4 of the 2024 edition.
There is no comment yet on the women's Setmana Ciclista Volta femenina de la Comunitat Valenciana, which is being performed by another organization scheduled for 2/13-16.
"We want to make sure that the 76th edition of our race is not at risk," the race organizers said in a statement on social media.
"As we announced a few months ago, VCV2025 will be held from 5 to 9 May and we expect your support in a very special edition, due to the recent events at Comunitat Valenciana."
More than 10 inches of rain fell in the area on 29/12, damaging buildings, roads and other infrastructure. Warehouses owned by race organizers were also flooded.
"Most of the materials used for VCV organization are no longer useful. In addition, since most of the human teams of VCV organizations live in the affected areas, they suffer direct tragedies with significant material and human losses," the statement said.
With many routes already in place at the time of the flood, organizers may need to adapt for the damage.
"It is true that some of the routes planned for this VCV2025 will pass through areas affected by the tragedy. At the moment, we are working with the authorities to investigate the feasibility of these routes and, if necessary, propose some modifications to the planned routes to ensure proper celebration of VCV2025.”
