The rarely seen Chinese brand EXS, at least in the UK, had an incredibly exuberant member of the team stand in the staff Rouleur live. Between the lyrical waxes about the brand's titanium axle for the special tarmac, its super light stem, and its new integrated bar stem combo, I found the special Aethos, or any round tube bike it claimed, to be able to run hoses and cables perfectly in the frame. This is the first time that we have seen a fork that has the potential to be used in the future.
Forks are primarily intended for bikes that already have some degree of internal cable routing. The Aethos in this hypothetical example is routed internally from the head tube, but externally from there to the bar. If you wanted to make a bike that was completely external, it will be a little useful with a power drill and will have to very disable your warranty.
I did not get many shots, was my whirlwind visit along with such a slight language barrier, but from what I collected the fork, in combination with the corresponding stem, features a large channel down the front that can supply the front hydraulic brake hose.
To keep things clean, the fork comes with an upper bearing, a bearing cover, and a series of spacers. It's unclear how it will close the hole after that, but it shows how effective it is that the bike on the brand's stand got me through it completely because I thought it was a tarmac SL8 with a fancy paint job. It was actually the SL7, running the hose inside.
Representatives of the brand on the stand said this could make bikes like the SL7 and Aethos more aero or at least cut a more modern look.
In addition to this interesting carbon fork system, the brand has loads of hyperlight goodies on show too. I had a lot of work to do, many of which are impressive given that I Rouleur Lai intricately anodized rear hub is a part of a bike rarely seen by anyone other than the owner and its mechanic.Along with full titanium 12 speed cassette, seat post, 3D printed titanium bottle cage, blindly light integrated one-piece stem cap and stem bolt combo. There's a long way to go before Weight-weenie-ism regains the ground it lost to the aero brigade, but the EXS seems to have at least played its part in rectifying the balance.
