The 2024 Velo Duol Prize will introduce a new award to recognize the social contributions of bicycle riders and will be named in honor of the late Gino Mader.
A talented climber, Mader died at the age of 26 from injuries sustained in a downhill crash at the 2023 Tour de Suisse.
Through cycling and racing, Mader raised money for causes like Just Digit (an NGO that works to rehabilitate devastated landscapes through natural solutions): in the 2021 Vuelta a España, €10 for each rider who won the GC, and in 2022, a stage For each athlete who won a stage, the team donated 1 euro, raising 4,000 euros.

The finalists for the other awards in this year's 2024 Velodrome have already been announced, with Tadey Pogachar (UAE Team Emirates) being nominated for the World Velodrome Men's award.
Other finalists in the same category include Remco Evenepoel (Sudar-Quick Step) and Biniam Girmay (Intermarche-Wanti). Equal candidates for the women's prize include Grace Brown (FDJ-Suez), Kirsten Faulkner (EF-Autry Cannondale), and Lotte Kopecky (SD Walks Pro Time).
Last year's World Velo d'Or was won by Jonas Vingegaard (Vimaris-a-Bike) and Demi Vollering (SD Works-Protime).
