Colombian Sprint Star Fernando Gaviria to Continue with Movistar for Another Season

Colombian sprint star Fernando Gaviria has signed a new contract with the Spanish WorldTour team through at least the end of 2025 and will remain with Movistar for at least one more season.

Less than two months before the 2025 season began, the 30-year-old Gaviria was one of many finalists still left unresolved for next year.

But finally, this week, Movistar announced that the Colombian will add another year to his contract with the team, which began in 2023.

Once a winner of many, the Colombian has 52 wins in his career so far.

His most successful era dates back a decade, when he took five stages and the points jersey at the 2017 Giro d'Italia and won the Maria Rosa in Sardinia in the first week of racing. He then won multiple stages in the 2018 Tour de France and wore the leader's yellow jersey for several days.

Since then, however, Gaviria has not had much success, with only a stage win at the 2024 Tour of Colombia. His most recent WorldTour victory was the 2023 Tour de Romandie, but this year he has two top-three finishes at the Tour de France.

“I am honored to renew my contract with Movistar,” Gaviria said in a press release announcing his contract extension.

“My teammates Alberto Torres and Davide Timolai have also extended their contracts.
