The 2025 Giro d'Italia is expected to start in Albania, and according to the latest reports in Italy, race organizer RCS Sport is in negotiations with the Albanian government.
A proposal that RCS might move the opening stage of the Gran Partenza and the 2025 Corsa Rosa from Albania to Sicily was rejected by RCS CEO Paolo Bellino.
“There has been no change of plans, no problems with Albania, and the press conference on November 12 has only been postponed due to technical problems,” Bellino said last week.
RCS Sport has refused to comment further since the cancellation of the route announcement scheduled for November 12. However, they are confident and determined that the 2025 Giro d'Italia will start in Albania.
The 2026 Giro d'Italia and Giro d'Italia women's route was supposed to be announced next Tuesday in Rome. No new announcement dates have been announced, leaving athletes and teams unsure how to plan for the 2025 goals.
Much of the men's route has been leaked by local media, but teams will want clear confirmation before targeting the 2025 Giro d'Italia.
Italian national broadcaster RAI, which has the rights to broadcast the race in Italy, revealed problems with Albania last week. They then contacted the office of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, only to be told simply: “We have no new information.”
RAI commentators Andrea de Luca and Beppe Conti, on their weekly RadioCorsa cycling show, suggested that there were still “major problems” and that a final deal between RCS Sport and Albania had not yet been signed.
They suggested that the next 10 days would be “frenetic.”
