Rohan Dennis Ordered to Delay Six Weeks in Trial on Melissa Hoskins' Death

Rohan Dennis briefly appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday to face charges in connection with the death of his wife, former Olympian Melissa Hoskins.

Dennis' lawyers requested a 6-week delay to allow negotiations with prosecutors to continue.

Magistrate Justin Wickens agreed to the postponement and set the date for the next hearing to be 12-10. According to reports, Dennis did not comment and left the court.

Hoskins was attacked by Dennis' car outside his home in Medindi in 2023/12 and later died at the Royal Adelaide Hospital from injuries.

On May 8, the Prosecutor confirmed that he would proceed with the indictment on charges of dangerous driving and driving without due care and causing death. If convicted, Dennis faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for the first time and 2 months in prison for the second 12 months.

Dennis and Hoskins both had successful careers in cycling. Hoskins is a member of the Australian women's team pursuit team at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, and one of the country's world Champion pursuit team in 2015

Dennis is a world champion and Olympic bronze medallist twice in the time trial, and has won his first gold medal. All three Gu during an 11-year road career

Hoskins was remembered in May at a service her father said, "We are celebrating today's life that was cut too short. Melissa was warming up...Her best performance had not yet come. We are saddened, all of us. There should have been more."
