Red Bull-Borla-Hansgrohe team manager Ralf Denk told Cycling News of his plans to develop future team leaders, and now the German superteam is offering a clear pathway from junior and under-23 athletes to the WorldTour team The team has released its 2025 development team roster, which provides a clear pathway from juniors and under-23s to the WorldTour team.
Called the Red Bull-Bohler-Hansgrohe Rookies, the continental-level team will include 12 of the most talented under-23 The players will participate in the event.
Denmark's Theodor August Clemmensen and Finn, Germany's Paul Fietzke, and Estonia's Romet Pajur will step up from the Glenke Auto Eder junior team. Also selected for the Red Bull-Bohler-Hansgrohe rookie development team are Adrien Boichis of France, Davide Donati of Italy, Renate Jasch of Germany, Marco Martin of Spain, and Sebastian Putz of Austria.
As a formal development team, the athletes will be able to step up and race on the World Tour team with Primosz Roglic and Jai Hindley.
With Red Bull as the team's owner and title sponsor, Denk is now able to invest heavily in the team's staff and performance. John Wakefield was named the team's director of development, responsible for the team's “rookie program” and the expansion of the scouting unit. Red Bull-Bohra Hansgrohe also signed Dan Biggum as its new head of engineering.
The WorldTour team also signed Giulio Pellizzari, Finn Fischer Black, Jan Tratnik, Gianni Moscon, Lawrence Petit, and twins Mick and Tim van Dijk for 2025. Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe reportedly tried to pull Lemko Evenepoel out of Sudar-Quickstep, but he recently admitted he would stay with the Belgian team.
The Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe rookies team is part of what the team describes as a “cutting-edge talent development program to set the highest standards in professional cycling.”
The development program builds on the success of the junior team at Glenke Haute Eder and strengthens the scouting department for future contracts.
“The goal is to identify and develop talent for a career on the World Tour.”
The Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rookies development team will be directed by former Slovenian rider Gregor Gazvoda, with recently retired Cesare Benedetti and Pello Olabria as sports directors.
“The leap from the U19 category to the World Tour is a big one. The new U23 team will make the process of growing from U19 to professional much smoother,” said John Wakefield.
“Like the U19 team, the U23 team will compete in important races on the calendar and provide the best opportunities for growth. Next season, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe will have the most complete and seamless talent development program in professional cycling.”
“Big changes are coming,” Denk told Cycling News over the summer.
“This is just the beginning. The contract [with Red Bull] was just signed in May. With a team, as always, it is a step by step process. I've been doing this job for 24 years and I've always improved year by year.
“Red Bull bought the management of the team with a long-term plan. Their intentions are very serious and so is the team.”
