After completing his fourth season as the world's number one rider, Tadej Pogachar has extended his contract with UAE Team Emirates, which he had already signed through 2027, for another three years until 2030.
The Tour de France and Giro d'Italia winner and reigning world champion has been with the team since turning professional in 2019 and has dedicated the majority of his career to the team.
Teammate Pablo Torres is also signed through 2030. His lifetime contract with Visma Lease-a-Bike is not as long as Wout Van Art's.
“I am very proud to extend my time here at UAE Team Emirates. This team has been my home for the past five years and I can't imagine being anywhere else,” Pogachar said in a team press release. [The best moments of my career have been at UAE Team Emirates. I owe that to the staff, management, teammates, and partners who make it possible for me to perform at my best. I am really looking forward to the future. This team gives me the best chance to compete for championships, and that is my goal.
UAE Team Emirates has a number of riders with contracts far longer than the usual two years. Isaac del Toro is under contract until 2029, while Jan Christen and Juan Ayuso are under contract until 2028. Mikkel Bjarg, Brandon McNulty, Antonio Morgado, Domen Novak, Marc Soler, and Jay Wein also have contracts through 2027.
Team CEO Mauro Gianetti is especially pleased with the confidence of the world's top riders. Said Gianetti,
“It's an incredible feeling to be able to announce the extension of our contract with Taddei Pogacar, the leader of our team and the best cyclist in the world.” 'Taddei joins the team as an ambitious 20-year-old and we have watched him blossom this season into a Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and world champion. His talent is clear for all to see, but he is also the hardest working and most dedicated cyclist in the peloton. Taddei deserves all the success he has achieved and we are delighted that he will be with us for many years to come.”
UAE Team Emirates developed from former Italian team Lampre-Merida in 2017 in a somewhat last-minute arrangement after a Chinese investor collapsed.
Thanks to then-directors Giuseppe Saronni and Gianetti, H.E. Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni Al Dhaheri, president of Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer Copaonik, UAE Team He remains president of the Emirates, he succeeded in securing the UAE's support and getting his application for the 2017 World Tour in time.
“This is a special moment for the team and for cycling here in the UAE. 'Tadej is an amazing talent who represents the UAE well. Tadej is an amazing talent representing the UAE, a beacon of inspiration for the next generation, adored and loved by many."
[20 [It has been an honor to watch him grow into the man he is today and I could not be more proud of what he has accomplished for our team. As we continue to see our sport go from strength to strength throughout the region, Tadej, along with his teammates, is certainly a big reason why. It's a special day for cycling and we're very excited about the future.”
