Katie Archibald is “mortified” after suffering yet another accidental shoulder dislocation.
The British track racing star was forced to miss this summer's Paris Olympics after falling outside her home earlier this year, breaking her leg and dislocating her ankle.
She made a strong comeback at the recent UCI Track World Championships, winning gold in the British team pursuit and bronze in Madison. However, a serious injury from a relatively minor fall halted her momentum once again.
Archibald was competing in the opening round of the London 3-Day event on Friday night when an accident forced her to withdraw from the event.
“As I was going off the track I made contact with the bike and had a small stumble. Because of that little stumble, I dislocated my shoulder. I don't know what to do. ...... I really don't know,” Archibald wrote in a statement on Instagram.
“Unfortunately, after struggling to get it back in, I won't be able to continue racing this weekend.
Archibald further hinted at the complications of the injury, stating, “Doctors all over London were drugged to the point of popping their eyeballs out of their heads while I had my shoulder relocation surgery.”
Archibald admitted to feeling overwhelming embarrassment after suffering her second unforeseen accident in a year, but unlike the blow that robbed her of a chance to extend her Olympic berth, this setback does not seem likely to hold her back in the same way.
“I want to hide from the world and pretend I'm not doing this anymore. It's so frustrating. But it's only for a moment. For now, the race schedule looks like it will continue as planned,” Archibald wrote.
“Thank you so much to everyone in the audience, especially my dream team who have been with me every transfer. Sorry to my mom who has been trying to figure out which A&E I went to for a long time. I'll be back soon.
