2025 Giro d'Italia and Giro d'Italia Women's Route Set for November 12

The routes for the 2025 Giro d'Italia and Giro d'Italia Women were announced in Rome on November 12, with the men's race expected to start in Albania and finish in the Italian capital. [The Giro d'Italia men's race will be held from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, June 1, while the Giro d'Italia women's race will be held from Friday, July 6 to Sunday, July 13.

Tadei Pogachar won the men's race and Elisa Longo Borghini won the women's race. Little is known about the route for the 2025 women's race, but local Italian media have already leaked some details of the men's race.

Race director Mauro Veni almost confirmed the Albanian Grande Partenza in a video interview with Bicisport.

Italy has strengthened ties with Albania following the election of right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the two countries have agreed on an immigration deal under which some illegal immigrants will be taken to Albania while their asylum applications are heard.

Italy and Albania have historical ties due to their proximity; Italy invaded Albania in 1939 when fascist leader Benito Mussolini joined forces with Nazi Germany; after the collapse of communism in the Balkans in 1990, thousands of Albanian immigrants crossed into Italy.

The route of the 2025 Giro d'Italia is expected to head north from Puglia, touching both the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts, visiting Abruzzo, Campania, and Tuscany. Veni revealed that the 2025 race will include two time trials, one of which will take place between Lucca and Pisa in Tuscany

.

The northeastern region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia had hoped to host the Giro in Trieste until RCS Sport reached an agreement with Albania. The region will now host the crucial third weekend of the race. Local authorities have confirmed that the final week will cross northern Italy and feature a final mountain stage in the ski resort of Sestriere, near the French border, possibly climbing the gravel roads of Colle delle Finestre, where Chris Froome attacked and won the 2018 Corsa Rosa It will be.

The final stage will once again take place in Rome, as RCS Sport has signed a lucrative contract with the city. This stage could include sections of rough cobblestones near Rome.

“It's a jubilee, so it would be a mistake not to accept the invitation,” Veni told Bisisisport, referring to the Catholic Church's special year of grace scheduled for 2025, “and we will definitely finish in Rome.

Vegni also confirmed the Grande Partenza in Albania. He said, “The Grande Partenza in Albania is divided into three stages.

Due to the length of the stages and the limited travel, it is unlikely that there will be long transfers from one region of Italy to another, beyond Albania to Puglia and the final stage, Sestriere to Rome.

The 2024 Giro d'Italia has 20% less climbing distance than previous races, and Veni suggested that the 2015 race will be similar.

“Certainly there will not be as hard a final week as there was two years ago. There will be a hard finale, but it will be a balance of each of the three weeks like this year,” Veni said.

“There will be some interesting things, like gravel roads, and I'm sure people will be surprised when the route for the stage in Rome is revealed on November 12.”

Pogachar won six stages and led for 20 days at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, and while it is unlikely he will return in 2025, Veni hopes he will attract other Grand Tour contenders. 2023 winner Primos Roglic has indicated that he may return in 2025, and Juan Ayuso is likely to lead UAE Team Emirates.
