Organizers of the Belgian Waffle Ride (BWR), an “unloaded” event held throughout North America, have announced their 2025 race lineup.

And the first BWR Montana will be held on June 29 in Bozeman, on the Front Range of the Rockies.
These four events make up the Quad Tripel Crown of Gravel Series, where top elite and amateur athletes are scored in a points-based omnium over both waffle (long route) and wafer distances. This year, the best three scores will determine the overall winner. Special points will be awarded for this year's 14th annual BWR California competition.
The 2024 Elite men's and women's Triple Crown titles went to Peter Stetina and Sofia Gomez Villafani, who both recorded the best times in three consecutive races over a seven-week span, culminating in BWR California at the end of the series, A total of $25,500 in overall elite prize money was split between the top five men and women.
This year's “high” prize purse has yet to be determined, but Marx told Cycling News that “with the support of sponsors, the overall prize pool will be much larger than last year. Athletes will also be able to win individual prizes in each of the four events.
The Belgian Vaffel Ride “Unloaded” event began in 2011 in BWR California, when Michael Marx launched it with Monuments of Cycling. As the event grew to include events across North America, organizers launched the Tripel Crown series for elite riders in 2021, with a points-based omnium system for the three races to determine winners and distribute prize money. The series was expanded to the Quadrupel Crown in 2023 and a condensed Tripel Crown in 2024.
“We are excited to host the Belgian Waffle Ride Festival at Del Mar Polo Fields. This location is the perfect blend of natural beauty, accessibility, and the festival atmosphere we've dreamed up for this unique event.” This is not only a new venue, but an opportunity to further enhance the BWR experience while also supporting a great charity (San Diego Cure Bound).”
Registration for the first four events opened this week. The route will be announced at a later date, but is expected to be similar to previous years, ranging from 103 miles (166 km) in BWR Arizona to 127 miles (205 km) in BWR Utah. Previously, BWR California had the longest uphill distance, with 10,000 feet of elevation gain at 120 miles. The percentage of dirt, singletrack, and gravel varied from 30% to 92%, as did the “unroad” surface.
Organizers also confirmed that the 5th BWR North Carolina will be moved from June to October 4, 2025, and that the waffle route will be changed to 103 miles with less climbing; BWR British Columbia, BWR Mexico, and Monterey, Calif. More details on the event will be announced.
