The Lifetime Grand Prix Series prize pool has long been a standout in the gravel world, but its potential prize money will actually rise in 2025, albeit just a bit slimmer, with each event offering $30,000 in prize money.
In 2024, there was a $300,000 prize pool to be split between the top 10 men and women in the Selective Series, but next year that will drop to $200,000, plus $180,000 in prize money for the six events that make up the series.
Several of the events in the series have offered modest cash prizes in the past, but until now the Unbound Gravel 200, Leadville Trail 100 MTB, and Big Sugar Gravel have been all glory. Along with the Sea Otter Classic, Chequamegon MTB, and a new addition to the series in 2024, the Little Sugar MTB, $30,000 for each race in 2025
This will be the first time that a race in the series has been awarded a prize of $30,000.
This would be a significant jump in prize money for all races except the Little Sugar MTB, which had a high purse of $65,000 available in 2024.
The big difference, however, is not in the amount of prize money, but in who gets it. Lifetime prize money is only available to selected competitors in the series, whereas now, simply participating in individual events is enough to win prize money for individual races.
“While we continue to allocate significant prize money to the series itself, we felt it was time to offer additional prize money for each of the six races that make up the series. This will allow us to attract competitive, world-class top athletes and further grow the sport domestically.”
It is also not easy internationally to set up more lucrative prize money to make American gravel racing stand out.
The prize money announcement comes after Lifetime Grand Prix announced additional changes for 2025 earlier this month. This includes three wildcard entries to be made after two tournaments, the Sea Otter Classic Gravel on April 11, 2025 and the Unbound Gravel on May 31, 2025.
But first, the 2024 season finale will unfold at the 100-mile Big Sugar Gravel on Saturday, where the series winner will again be determined.
