Tour de Tietema-Unibet's bid to compete in the Tour de France has taken a major step forward with the signing of a new multi-year contract that will make Unibet its first title sponsor in 2025.
The Dutch team will race under a French license in 2025 and become the Unibet Tietema Rockets, the first “franchise” professional cycling team.
The project is run by former professional rider and successful YouTuber Bas Tietema with business partners Josse Wester and Devin van der Wiel. Tietema's channel has garnered about 40 million views and more than 180,000 channel subscribers in just a few years.
“It feels like only yesterday that Devin, Josse and I started the project of creating our own cycling team, and two years later the team has its own name and international identity.”
The team's name is “Tietema” and the team's name is “Tietema”.
Alongside their successful social media coverage and ongoing YouTube insights into professional racing, it is still putting all its energy into racing. They won two races as pros at last year's ZLM Tour and February's Tour of Antalya, and in Amstel, Briton Zeb Kaifin was part of the main breakaway and showed what he is capable of.
Tietema finished third in the U23 Paris-Roubaix in his racing days, but never competed in the Tour de France as an athlete.
“Every cycling team starts with one dream: the Tour de France. We have been working towards that dream for a long time and have probably already exceeded the expectations of many,” team owner Teitema said on the team's website.
“To do so, we need to improve the level of our players, attract more global partners, and tell our story in the best way possible.
“We are very proud of the progress we have made and now we are taking a big step toward realizing that dream.
While competing in the Tour remains the main goal, a Monument appearance is a major goal for Teitema and his team in the upcoming year's races, along with a hit-out in the Spring Classic.
“That was my goal this year. To compete in the first World Tour race, and then next year to compete in the first Monument,” Tietema told Cycling News in April, with an eye on the Tour de Flanders. 23]
“Then, of course, more World Tour races like the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in the Flanders section, to improve the climber group for the final goal, which is to compete in the Tour de France.”
Tietsema said that the team is “looking forward to the Tour de France.
Securing the partnership with Unibet ensures the team's immediate future, with 24 riders already confirmed to compete in 2025, including Antalya winner Hartheis de Vries.
“I am very proud of the development of the team and our joint goal of the Tour de France. The team has great potential and has already proven its ability to develop rapidly,” said Neil Bunbury, Chief Commercial Marketing Officer of the Kindred Group.
“From the beginning, their ambition, entrepreneurial spirit, and the way they express themselves has been inspiring to us and refreshing for the sport. We can't wait to see the Rockets in action and grow to the next level.”
