UAE Team Emirates has announced that René Herregots will be its third new rider for 2025. The Belgian all-rounder will sign a two-year contract with the Tadei Pogachar-led team.
Hellegots (Intermarque Wanty), who will be a professional from 2021, will join UAE Team Emirates next season along with fellow newcomers Honatan Narvaez (Ineos Grenadiers) and Florian Vermaersch (Lot Dostony).
Like the Ecuadorian and Fermeersch (Fermeersch was 2nd in the Gravel World Championships and a Paris-Roubaix runner-up), Helegotz is expected to shine in the spring classics. But the versatile 26-year-old also has other strengths that will allow him to aim for the top spots on his new team.
Helegotz has a talent for escapes, as he did in his planned victory on the opening stage of the 2022 Vuelta a Andalucía. He is also remembered for his near-miss on the first stage of the 2023 Criterium du Dauphiné, when he was swallowed up by a group just before the finish line after a 150km breakaway.
Helegotz also showed his talent in time trials, winning the opening individual race of the ZLM Tour and taking his first overall stage win. He also won the bronze medal at this year's Belgian TT Championships for the second year in a row.
“The UAE is one of the best teams in the world and I am really happy and looking forward to joining their top group of riders with the best staff and equipment,” Herregotz said in a team press release.
“I am ready to give my maximum to grow with the team over the next few years.
. UAE Team Emirates CEO Mauro Gianetti added, “Rune is a powerful rider who is at the peak of his powers and we are proud to have him with us for many years to come.”
