Kim Lecourt has committed to a further two years with AG Insurance-Soudal after experiencing the best season of her professional cycling career.
The reigning Mauritian national champion in time trial and road racing will complete her first season with the team this year and continue with the World Tour program until the end of 2026.
“The contract extension means a lot to me. It has been a long and difficult road to get to this point. I had to prove myself and show that the risk was worth it,” Lecourt said in a team press release Monday.
“There was a lot of pressure on my shoulders, but I am incredibly happy that everything worked out. It shows that the team trusts me and I'm excited to continue contributing to our shared goals. This is an opportunity to grow as an athlete and a human being in a team that feels like a family.”
Le Court began the season in Australia with AG Insurance Soudal, finishing ninth in the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. Returning to Europe in the spring, he finished 11th in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda, 9th in the Bruges des Pins, 13th in Ghent-Wevelgem, 23rd in the Tour of Flanders, and 10th in Paris-Roubaix. He failed to finish the Amstel Gold Race, but returned to racing at RideLondon in May and finished fourth overall at the Volta a Catalunya in June.
He won both the road race and time trial at the Mauritius Championships and took a stage win at the Giro d'Italia. He represented Japan at the Paris Olympics and finished in the top 10 twice at the Tour de France Femmes in August.
“During my time on the team, I learned how teamwork and communication are crucial to success. No matter how strong our individual performances are, it is the collective strength of the entire team that propels us forward,” Lecourt said.
“I have also developed an understanding of resilience and perseverance, especially during tough training periods and difficult races. Going forward, I plan to apply these lessons by keeping an open line of communication with my teammates and focusing on long-term improvements, even if I feel that progress is slow.”
Le Court opted to end the season early by not competing in the recent UCI Road World Championships in order to recover from a wrist injury sustained in a crash at Ghent-Wevelgem in the Spring Classic.
The decision to end the season early was made after consulting with the medical team at AG Insurance Soudal with a view to her long-term recovery and future return to competition.
She said she aims to focus on improving her consistency next season while targeting some important races with AG Insurance Soudal.
“What I still want to accomplish” On a personal level, she aims to grow as a leader within the team, offering support and guidance whenever needed. I am also committed to finding a healthy balance between my athletic career and my personal life so that I can stay mentally and physically strong throughout the upcoming season.”
