Double stage winner of the Vuelta a España, Pablo Castillo, signs with Movistar

After weeks of speculation, the question of the future team of 2024 Vuelta a España double stage winner Pablo Castillo was settled on Wednesday when Movistar announced that it had signed Castillo to a contract for the next three years.

Castrillo, 23, rose to prominence at the 2024 Vuelta, winning two solo summit finish stage victories in four days.

For Castrillo's company, Khan Farma, his first stage win in La Manzaneda's 12th stage was a huge emotional moment, as it came just hours after the announcement that founder and former president Manolo Ascona had died at age 71.

Despite disappearing from the radar in such a dramatic fashion, Castrillo then went on to win his second Kahn Farmer ahead of Beulah Hansgrohe and Red Bull racer Alexandre Vlasov.

Winning two of only four stage victories in the 2024 Grand Tour with a wildcard team, as well as the one won by teammate Urko Velarde in the Vuelta, was an eye-catching accomplishment, and Castrillo received multiple offers for the 2025 season and beyond.

Since then, Castrillo has become even more well-known for his strong performances in the world championships, becoming one of the few riders to attack before Tadej Pogachar cleared.

The Spanish rider eventually moved to Movistar, his home team on the World Tour.

“They are a reference point in Spanish cycling and to have the chance to race for this team is a very exciting moment.
