Tour of Flanders winner Caspar Asgreen will race the EF Education Easy Post in 2025, it was announced Wednesday.
The versatile Dane has been signed to strengthen and lead the Cobbled Classics team and brings a wealth of experience, having won De Ronde, E3 Saxo Bank, and Coone Brussel-Coone in the past four years.
Also a Tour de France stage winner from the breakaway, Asgreen believes he is a perfect fit for the aggressive philosophy that EF Education-Easypost has honed in recent years.
“The main reason I came to this team is the way the riders race. The main reason I came to this team is the way the players race. You can always see that there is a plan to win,” Asgreen said in a press release.
“Even if the race doesn't suit them perfectly, they don't just sit in the pack and wait for another team to take the lead.
“With this team, we're going to do everything we can to make the race unfold the way we want it to. For me, that's the most important thing, and I like the team's approach to racing."
The Belgian team is the only one Asgreen knows as elite, having stepped up to the World Tour level in a quick step midway through the 2018 season. But EF Pro Cycling founder and CEO Jonathan Vaughters thinks he would be a perfect fit as well.
“Kasper is a smart racer who can make big attacks at the end of the toughest classics,” said Vaughters, well aware that Asgreen's success in Flanders came in a sprint-a-deux with Mathieu Van der Pol.
“He can read a race well. He can read a race well. He's also good at sprints, as he won in Ronde van Vlaanderen.
Victories have been few and far between for Asgreen in recent years, with zero in 2024 and 2022.
“My main goal this year is to lead my team to victory in Belgium in the spring,” he said. 'We're going to have a really, really strong team with a couple of riders that can take it into the mix in the finals. That's a recipe I believe in and one that is working well for me.”
