The Lifetime Grand Prix Series still has its final race in 2024, but attention is already turning to 2025.
The shifts that will make next season's series a little different are the number of competitors (down to 25 women and 25 men), the selection process that includes three wildcard entries after two events, and changes to which races will be included.
“We are pleased to announce an update to the 2025 Lifetime Grand Prix. We're excited to announce our fourth series because we believe it will be the most dynamic yet,” said Kimo Seymour, Lifetime's President of Media and Events, in a media release announcing the plans for 2025.
“We just finished the 2024 series, and while it is only our third season, we have already made immense progress in our goal to attract more fans and grow cycling in the country. From the sold-out events to the success of the Lifetime Grand Prix Race Highlights video series on YouTube, it is clear that the appetite for professional and recreational off-road cycling in the United States continues to grow.”
What does not continue to grow, however, is the number of events, and due to the turnover of those included, it takes five starts to win the prize money, with the top five event results becoming the six event competitions that determine series standings.
The Cruiser in the Tushar (cancelled this year due to fires in the Tushar area) and the Rad Dirt Fest (added as a wildcard in 2023) are both off the schedule, but the Lifetime Little Sugar MTB is a mandatory big sugar gravel that will be raced The series opener in 2025 will also be slightly different, with the Fuego XL 100K MTB at the Sea Otter Classic being replaced by the Lifetime Sea Otter Classic Gravel.
The April 11 Lifetime Grand Prix starter and May 31 Unbound Gravel will also be gate-opening events, with three men and three women leveraged.
The series, which had 30 women and 30 men registered to start in 2024, will be contested by 25 or 50 riders through both categories this year. However, only 22 men and 22 women will be registered for the roster, which will be announced in early November, and there will be three wild card spots in each category. The top finishers in the opening two tournaments will have a chance to re-enter the 2025 season, as will the riders who missed out on a series berth.
Applications will open on October 14 and run through October 28; the initial roster for the 2025 series will be determined by November 7, with wild-card entrants to be confirmed after Unbound. Prize details have not yet been announced. Before the focus shifts to 2025, however, the 2024 tournament still has one round remaining, the Big Sugar Gravel on October 19. Sofia Gomez Villafani (Specialized) and Keegan Swenson (Santa Cruz) are at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round and will likely maintain their series advantage.
