Tour de France Champion Kasia Niewiadoma Ends Season, Will Not Defend Gravel World Championship Title

Canyon-SRAM announced Wednesday that Kasia Niewiadoma will end her 2024 season and will not compete in this weekend's UCI Gravel World Championships.

The Polish rider won the Tour de France Femme and La Flèche Wallonne during the road season, finishing second in the Tour de Flanders and eighth in the Paris Olympics.

“After such an intense year, or shall we call it summer, filled with so many emotions, ups and downs, I have now decided to skip the defense of my (gravel world) title after the 2024 season,” Nienyadoma said in a social media post.

“I want to focus on recovery, spending time with those close to me, and celebrating all that has happened this year! I wish all the participants the best of luck. And thank you all for your tremendous support!”

Niewiadoma won the Tour de France Femme by just four seconds, holding off a long-distance attack by 2023 Tour de France winner Demi Volering on the summit of L'Alpe d'Huez on the final stage.

The victory came on the heels of the 30-year-old winning the world title at the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships, and following her first elite women's gravel race, in which she overtook Vollering in Silvia Persico (Italy), giving her renewed vigor.

She won the gravel race Big Sugar at the end of last season, describing it as “crazy hard” and showing that the new training schedule she has adopted is working.

She won her first classic in five years at La Flèche Wallonne and said she hopes to inspire others to continue pursuing success.

“It's all about belief ...... If you know your potential, don't let anyone make you feel inferior, and don't let any failure make you feel like you don't deserve something, anything is possible,” she said earlier this year.
