Oluis Aurar, winner of the Trofeo Matteotti earlier this month, has signed a dream two-year contract with the Movistar team, the team announced Wednesday.
Aurar has spent the past five seasons with Caja Rural Seguros RGA, but has come into his own in the last two seasons, winning the Volta ao Alentejo and the CRO race overall last year and the GP Internacional Torres Vedras- this season. He won the overall at the Trofeu Joaquin Agostinho and was second overall at the Tour du Limousin. [To be honest, I never imagined I would be able to participate in the World Tour. I always set out to move forward, one step at a time.” I first tried to get into the European peloton because of Jesús Rodríguez Magro, who was fighting with EC Carcho in Spain.”
Rodriguez, a former professional in Banesto, is the owner of Aural's amateur team, and Aural's Spanish adventure continued on a more global scale with races in Belgium and France in 2017 and a series of races in China the following year; in 2019, the Japanese team signed with Matrix Powertag and won the Tour de Kumano with this team.
With these accomplishments, Auraul signed with Caja Rural Seguros RGA and began to gain a foothold in the European peloton during the COVID pandemic, winning his first team victory at the 2022 Clasica da Arrabida, followed by his first overall at the Volta Ao Alentejo. He followed that up with his first overall win at the Volta ao Alentejo.
“I can't thank Caja Rural enough for the opportunity they gave me. To have such a great opportunity with the Movistar team is the result of many years of hard work and dedication. It was never easy.
“2024 was my best season to date. We improved year after year and this season we were able to maintain consistency in both performance and results. This desire drove me to work harder than ever before. I was able to cross some mountains in better shape than ever before, and the 'plus' of having the chance to join the Movistar team gave me hope to keep improving in many aspects.
“If the team ever needs me, I have full control of the team. I'm going to keep chasing goals, try to be a good all-rounder, and show that I still have room for improvement, just like I have done throughout my career. I know my teammates and staff (some of whom I have played with in the past) and I want to support the team and give my all.”
