Swiss rider Muriel Füller in critical condition in hospital after crashing in junior women's road race

Switzerland's Muriel Farrar was taken to the hospital by emergency helicopter after a violent fall in the women's junior road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Zurich on Thursday morning.

According to a joint statement released after the race by the UCI, the Swiss Cycling Federation, and the Zurich 2024 Local Organizing Committee, Fleer is in “critical condition with serious head injuries.”

“At present there are no established facts as to how the accident occurred. An investigation by the competent authorities is ongoing. For this reason, we are unable to provide any further information until further notice,” the statement said.

The 18-year-old was a double silver medalist in the time trial and road race at this year's Swiss Road Race Championships. She also won a silver medal in Swiss cyclo-cross and a bronze in mountain bike cross-country.

At the World Championships, he competed in the time trial and finished 44th.

The UCI, national governing bodies, and championship organizers are “very concerned” about the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
