Slovenia's Tadej Pogačar stands on the start line of the men's world championship road race in Zurich on Sunday on a special limited edition Colnago V4Rs Tadej.
Pogačar is the favorite to win Sunday's road race, adding to his victories at the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France earlier this year. If he wins, he will become the third male cyclist, after Eddy Merckx and Steven Roche, to win the Giro, Tour, and World Championships in a single year, making it a triple crown of cycling. Annemiek van Grooten is the only woman to win the Triple Crown.
Pogachar, who abandoned the Paris Olympics road race due to fatigue, seems to have regained his top form in recent races, winning the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal in mid-September by pulling away from the pack.
His bike at the World Championships is almost rainbow-colored, perhaps anticipating the possibility of victory. According to Colnago, the color scheme is inspired by all the success Pogachar has already achieved in his professional career, and the design mimics pop art of the 1950s and 60s.
The design colors are yellow, white, and polka dots for Pogachar's Tour jersey, pink for the Giro, green for Lombardia, blue for Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico (and Giro KoM), and bronze for Olympic and World Championship 3rd place.
It also includes purple, as Pogachar once said, “You always need something purple in your life.” The TP logo is also embedded in the design.
Spec-wise, the bike is almost identical to the bike Pogachar rides for UAE Team Emirates, but with a new color scheme, different tires, and color-matched Enve wheels. Other details carried over from Pogachar's team bike include carbon chainrings with Shimano Dura-Ace cranks, bottle cage bolts, X-rotor disc brake rotors, and ultralight through-axles.
The pro-logo Nago R4 Nack 147 saddle is also specially designed and incorporates the name of Pogachar's most important victory. The mechanical hangers were also specially designed.
The Colnago V4Rs Tadej limited edition bikes come in seven sizes and will be available on the Colnago website from September 26 through October 14 and at Colnago retail stores after October 14. Equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace, Enve SES 4.5 wheels, and Colnago CC.01 bars, they look like pogachas and cost €17,200.
