SD Works Pro Time Appoints Barbara Guariski as Key Rider for Two Years

Top-ranked SD Volks Pro Time has decided to use Italy's Barbara Guarischi as its primary lead-out sprinter for the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

The 33-year-old reignited her 15-year career last year with a move from Movistar, where she enjoyed success as a support rider for SD Volks Pro Time's top sprinter Lorena Vives.

“Barbara Guariski exemplifies the professionalism necessary to deliver top performance. Barbara has expressed her desire to race for two more years and we are pleased that she will be doing so with us,” sport manager Danny Stamm said in a press release. [She has done a lot of work and is an important foundation of Team SD Works Pro Time. She and Lorena Wiebes have been huge in optimizing our lead-out. They are a duo that we can rely on blindly to work with each other. When Barbara signed on with us, everyone thought it was past glory. But she proved everyone wrong. She is irreplaceable. Not only in the sprint stages, but also in the classics.”

In her second season with SD Worx, Guaricki was part of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift team, supporting Dutch stars Wiebes and Demi Vollering, where the team took three stage wins and second place in GC The team won three stages there and Volering second on GC. Guarlicki's strong kick earned her two podiums in the Lotto-Thuringian Ladies Tour, a one-day top-five finish in the Giro d'Italia Women's race, and a win in Foligno for teammate Lotte Kopecký.

“Five years ago I was still winning in group sprints, but at some point I couldn't do that anymore. I accepted that and focused on helping others win. In the Team SD Walks Pro Time, I completely got back into the fun of cycling,” Guarlicki said.

“My greatest strength has always been my ability to identify and anticipate other riders' moves. I have a good grasp of what is happening and can almost always spot gaps. That helps me a lot in the lead-out. Since coming to Team SD Walks Pro Time, I have been able to celebrate many victories.

“As a professional athlete, you know when to be passionate, disciplined and focused in your work. I am proud to run with this great team for two more years and finish my career here.”

The team previously announced that it had renewed the contracts of Wiebes and 2023 road world champion Kopecký through 2028, and will be joined by 2023 European road champion Misha Bredewald, Femke Gerritze, Marie Schreiber, and multi-discipline talent Blanca Vas, as well as contract extensions.

In March, rumors began circulating that Vollering would leave SD Worx at the end of 2024 after four seasons, but before the UCI Road World Championships, where the 2023 Tour de France women's champion will represent the Netherlands in road racing, where She won a silver medal at the 2023 Road World Championships.

In 2025, she will be joined by Anna van der Breggen, who will return to the peloton after three years as team director. Even away from racing, van der Breggen is expected to make an impact, adding to her 62 career wins as a three-time road world champion.

Guaricchi will compete as Team Italia in the elite women's road race at the UEC European Road Race Championships on Saturday.
