Canyon-Slam has announced a one-year contract extension with Ricarda Bauernfeindt and Antonia Niedermeier. The German duo began their careers together on the Canyon-Slam Generation development team in 2022.
Both riders won their first Grand Tour in 2023 and have further contributed to the team this season, developing their individual talents.
The 21-year-old Niedermeier won the Giro d'Italia Donne stage 5 in 2023 with a 24-km solo attack. She also finished sixth overall in the Tour de Suisse women's race and was second in the U23 time trial at the UEC Road European Championships, where she won the U23 world title in 2023.
“One of the highlights of last season, when I made the decision to stay with the team, was the teamwork and the good results in the races. As a team we were really smart and efficient in the races. The sense of togetherness and shared sense of accomplishment was truly inspiring,” Niedermeier said in a team statement.
Bauernfeind's career began with six wins in 2022 and four top-10 GC finishes, including a stage win at the Tour de France Fam Avec Twift in 2023. in early 2024, the 24-year-old German finished ninth in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. At this year's Vuelta Femenina, he had a solid climbing run and finished sixth overall with four top-10 finishes.
After completing the Ituria women's race in May and supporting teammate Elise Chaby to fifth place overall, Bauernfind was forced to limit her activities due to a knee injury, and her momentum was halted.
“In 2024, I had a difficult month, the worst period of my career so far. But this period taught me how much I love being on the road with my team, how much I love racing, and how much I miss everyone on the team,” she said in a Canyon-SRAM press release announcing the extension through 2025.
“After being away from structured training and racing for such a long time, I hope to get back into my old groove next year and race with the team again. I miss it so much and can't wait to fight for victory with my teammates. I want to regain my strength in the mountains and support the team, especially in the stage races.”
