Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe announced that a “wave of illness” at the Vuelta a España resulted in two riders retiring and three finishing outside the time limit.
Roglic's teammates Patrick Gamper and Dani Martinez, who helped set up Roglic's solo victory and regained the red jersey on stage 19 at Moncalvillo, were both forced to retire on stage 20.
A third member of the Red Bull team, Nico Denz, completed the super mountain course but finished outside the time limit, while a fourth, Alexandre Vlasov, finished 30 minutes behind despite being ill.
“We had a wave of illnesses overnight,” lead sport director Patti Villa said in a statement posted on the team's website. [We are currently investigating whether food poisoning was the cause. Several staff members were affected and had to abandon today's stage. Also, Nico, Gampi, Dani, and Alex were sick during the stage. We will now assemble and focus on tomorrow's final stage.” [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...]
