I don't rule out the possibility that Primoš Roglic will win the Vuelta a España for the fifth time,” Roberto Heras.

Four-time Vuelta a España winner Roberto Heras had his overall win record broken by Primoz Roglic on Sunday. But the now-retired Spanish climber has not ruled out Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe winning the Vuelta again in 2025.

Roglic will win his fourth Vuelta title tonight, with victories in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024 tying Heras' four victories in 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2005.

Logrich, who turns 35 on October 29, is the third oldest Grand Tour winner in history, behind Chris Horner (41 years, 327 days) of the 2013 Vuelta a España and Firmin Lambot (36 years, 130 days) of the 1922 Tour de France.

However, Heras feels that victory in the 2025 Vuelta is definitely within Roglic's reach.

Heras, who followed this year's race closely, told Cyclingnews that he could not help but be impressed with Roglic, who took advantage of a breakaway by Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) on stage 6 to turn the race around.

“O'Connor, who was fourth in the Giro d'Italia and fourth in the Tour, was a bit risky on the breakaway. But Roglic didn't panic, and he made up time on various climbs to regain the jersey in Montcalvillo."

‘He may not have been as strong as in previous years, but he raced a very intelligent race.’

”He was very strong, but he was not as strong as in previous years, but he raced very intelligently. [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] Heras also does not feel that Roglic's age is necessarily an obstacle in his quest for a fifth Vuelta win, given his relatively late start on the bike and in his professional career.

Compared to much younger challengers, he still claims that his body is relatively less worn out from high-level racing.

“It's not just physical,” Heras notes, “but also mental. 'Certainly, as you get older, the maximum level at which you can perform tends to go down a little bit.' But the mental aspect has a big impact on what you can do physically, and he will know next year what he can do in a three-week stage race.”

“He is a great rider with huge palmares in all kinds of races, from one-day to week-long stage races to Grand Tours. I am very proud to share this record with him.”
