Pico Villillercas, the first summit finish of the Vuelta a España, has already created a significant time gap for the overall contenders.

After only four days of racing, some riders are already more than two minutes ahead of stage 4 winner Primos Roglic.

In the final Grand Tour of the season, EF Education-Easy Post leader Richard Karapas finished 25th at the top of a steep climb, 1:29 ahead of three-time winner Primoš Roglic.

The Ecuadorian already had a 2:02 lead over the race leader heading into stage 5. He said after stage 4 that the heat had a big impact on the outcome of the stage.

“It was very hot and it affected the final result a lot,” Karapas told ESCiclismo. 'The temperature, 40 degrees, was too high.
