Tudor Pro Cycling announced the signings of Marc Hirschi and Fabien Lienhard for 2025.
Like many teams, Tudor had postponed announcing their 2025 contracts during the Paris Olympics, but confirmed Hirschi's arrival on Monday, two days after winning the Donostia San Sebastian Classicoa. 30-year-old Fabien Rienhardt will join the team on a two-year contract and joins from Groupama-FDJ.
Hirschi will sign a three-year contract and leave UAE Team Emirates after four years with the team. Hirschi is from Bern, the same city as Tudor team owner Fabian Cancellara, and has been a longtime mentor and advisor.
Hirschi broke through in the 2020 season, delayed by a pandemic, winning a stage at that year's Tour de France and then Flèche Wallonne. He also finished third at the World Championships in Italy and second in Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
Team Sunweb surprisingly terminated his contract at the beginning of 2021, and he soon after moved to UAE Team Emirates. 2022 saw him win the Classics again, with four wins between March and October. 2023 saw him win the Swiss National Championship.
In 2024, Hirschi never raced a Grand Tour due to UAE Team Emirates' strong stage race roster, but he finished second in the Amstel Gold Race and in the Donostia San Sebastian Classicoa, beating Alaphilippe, who escaped in the last few kilometers to He won the race.
In Tudor, Hirschi will probably enjoy a clear leadership role, with Alaphilippe and Matteo Trentin as road captains.
“As a Swiss rider, it feels special to be part of the Swiss team. I am 25 years old, so it's time to support the leadership role and see how far I can go. Tudor Pro Cycling has given me this chance. I'm very happy to be here,” Hirschi said.
Tudor has stepped up to the pro team level in 2023 and has big ambitions thanks to solid financial support from the Swiss watch brand, which is owned by the same investors as Rolex. With the addition of Alaphilippe, the team could earn a wild card to the Tour de France in 2025 and possibly the World Tour in 2026.
Cancellara heads team management, with Rafael Meyer as team manager, Ricardo Scheidecker as sport director, and Matteo Tosatto as experienced director sportif.
“Signing Marc feels like the next piece of the puzzle in our story,” Cancellara said. [I know him well and understand his needs. He fits the team and our values. We are confident that we can help him reach the highest level."
[22Fabian Lienhard will also return to the Swiss team in 2025 after five years with Groupama-FDJ. He said, “It's always been a dream of mine to race for a Swiss team. I'm really happy to see it become a reality with Tudor Pro Cycling.”
“I'm excited to have Marc and Fabien on the team.
“They both bring a huge amount of experience and will help us perform better as a team. Marc will be a leader in one-day and week-long stage races, and Fabien will join the team for the Classics. He will also be a role model and mentor for the youngsters. He is a solid rider who still has a lot of potential to grow. We are very proud of these two additions to our team.”
