Emmanuel Buchmann will leave Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe at the end of the season to join Cofidis.
Buchmann's departure from Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe was inevitable after he lamented on social media about being left out of the Giro d'Italia. Buchmann claimed that he had been promised co-leadership with Daniel Martinez, who finished second overall, but the team denied this.
He is currently sidelined after breaking his collarbone and hip in a crash at the Tour de Suisse in June.
On Wednesday, Cofidis announced that he had agreed to a contract for the 2025 season.
Buchmann has spent his entire professional career so far with Bora-Hansgrohe, culminating in 2019 when he finished fourth overall in the Tour de France. The following year, a crash cost him a place in the Tour, and in the 2021 Giro d'Italia, he was in contention for the overall lead, but a crash forced him to drop out of the race.
In the 2022 Giro, he finished seventh, his second top-10 finish in a Grand Tour. This season, with the addition of Martinez and Primoš Roglic, Buchman dropped further down the team pecking order. [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...] [...]
