Blanca Vas (SD Worx-Protime), who missed out on a medal just 11 days earlier, avoided a possible repeat of the Olympic road race, quickly marking a late attack by newly crowned Kristen Faulkner and sprinting from a reduced group to win the Amneville Contributing factors.
Vos was the first and last to react to Faulkner's move to win at the Paris Olympics, but was not strong enough to close the gap. By the time she elbowed Marianne Vos and Lotte Kopecký to take over, the race was over and she finished fourth. On stage 5 of the Tour de France, she never ran out of power.
The young Hungarian witnessed the start of the American national champion's star-spangled kit. In addition to her victories at the Giro d'Italia Donne and Tour de Suisse,
“I didn't really sleep the first two days after the Olympics because I was waiting with Marianne [Vos] to win and we came back without medals,” Vas reflected at the post-race press conference.
