[Puck Pieters (Phoenix-Desseuninck), the current Tour de France leader in the mountains and young riders' classification, was involved in a group crash with 6km to go and missed his chance to take the yellow jersey on stage 5 of the Tour de France Femmes in Amneville. He missed the chance to take the yellow jersey.

Pieters, who won the stage to Liège the day before, started the day in second place overall. He was 22 seconds ahead of Demi Vollering (SD Works Pro Time), who was also involved in a crash.

Pieterse, who appeared to have abrasions to her chin, right elbow, and knee, finished the stage in the second group, 28 seconds behind winner Blank Vas (SD Works Pro Time).

She is now down in third place, but still 22 seconds behind new yellow jersey winner Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM).

The team announced that Pieters suffered some “bumps and bruises” but is otherwise healthy and will start on stage 6 in Remiremont on Friday.
