The feast of track events at the Paris Olympics continues with one of the most highly anticipated competitions, the Team Pursuit, and here's how to watch a live stream of the three-day 2024 Olympic Cycling Team Pursuit, August 5-7.
In the Team Pursuit, countries race in teams. The elements of Pursuit come from starting on opposite sides of the course and chasing each other's tails. Both men and women ride 16 laps (4 km) in teams of four. The riders will switch places at the front of the pack, running up the banks of the course and dropping down to the tail of the "train."
The men's race is expected to be a great battle between Olympic champion Italy, world champion Denmark, and European champion Great Britain. World records have been broken in Tokyo, and these nations will be pushing each other in Paris. Great Britain may have been the favorite to win the women's event, but they lost their star athlete, Katie Archibald, to an unexpected injury.
The men's and women's team pursuit finals will take place on August 7 at the Velodrome. Australia, which set a world record in Tuesday's first round, will face Great Britain for the gold medal at 18:33 local time (CET). Just prior to that, Denmark and Italy will battle for the bronze medal at 18:23.
The women's first round will begin at 13:52, the final at 18:57, and the gold medal match at 19:28.
This guide explains how to watch the Olympic Cycling Team Pursuit 2024 from anywhere in the world. For the track events, see How to watch the track events at the Paris Olympics; for the other events, see How to watch the cycling events at the Paris Olympics.
NBC owns the broadcast rights to the Olympics in the United States. The Olympics will be shown on several of the network's television channels, as well as on the network's Peacock streaming service.
All rounds of the men's and women's team pursuit events are available on Peacock, and a 7-day free trial is available for those who wish to try before they buy. Peacock Premium is available starting at $7.99 per month. Peacock Premium Plus, which is ad-free, is $13.99 per month.
The finals of each tournament will also be broadcast live on television, with the men's and women's finals on August 7 on E.
E. is available with a cable plan, but don't worry if you don't have cable; Sling is a smart TV service that allows Americans to watch cable channels on their TVs, laptops, and tablets without actually having to subscribe to an annual cable TV package. E. is available on Sling with the $40/month Sling Blue package ($20 for the first month).
In Australia, cycling fans can watch the Olympics for free on Channel 9 and its 9Now streaming service.
As in other regions, a significant portion of the action is expected to be included on live television, but for guaranteed coverage of all Team Pursuit races, fans can head to 9Now on their smart device of choice.
If you live in Canada, you can watch the Olympics on several broadcasters, including the free-to-air CBC and the subscription services TSN and Sportsnet.
It is not clear if CBC will air Team Pursuit as part of its daily television broadcast. The final will be streamed online on CBC Gem. Access to the ad-free premium library costs $5.99 per month, but the ad-supported version is free.
TSN and Sportsnet do not have dedicated streams for each sport, so it is not certain if the Team Pursuit event will be cut as part of their programming.
TSN's subscription service costs $19.99 per month or $199.90 per year. Sportsnet SN Now subscriptions, on the other hand, cost $14.99 per month or $179.99 per year.
In the UK, cycling fans can watch the Olympics for free on the BBC through BBC One, BBC Two, and BBC iPlayer.
However, the BBC only has the rights to broadcast two streams at a time, so while track cycling will be heavily supported by the national broadcaster, there is no guarantee that all rounds of the team pursuit will be televised.
Therefore, it will need to be seen on Discovery+, the most comprehensive coverage in the UK.
A special Olympic campaign allows you to subscribe to the "standard" Discovery+ package for £3.99 per month. This package includes a year-round cycling stream as well as other live sports such as snooker, tennis, and motorsports.
If you are traveling abroad and try to access your usual live streaming service to watch the games, you may find that access is regionally restricted.
In this case, a VPN service comes in handy, allowing your computer to pretend to be at home and log into your streaming account to catch all of the racing action.
Our colleagues at TechRadar thoroughly tested several VPN services, and NordVPN struck gold:
