Defeating Volering One More Time - Evita Mujic Aims for Tour de France Femme Podium and Alpe d'Huez Dreams

The race to the summit of La Laguna Negra at La Vuelta Femenina in May was a memorable moment for Evita Mujic (FDJ-SUEZ). The French rider not only took an impressive stage win, but also beat Demi Vollering (SD Works-Protime).

This gave her hope as the spotlight turned to the Tour de France femme, where the final decisive battle will take place at the legendary hairpin in L'Alpe d'Huez.

Mujic will race alongside Uttrup Ludwig, Grace Brown, Coralie Demay, Rose Adeguest, Amber Clark, and Léa Culinier in FDJ-Suez's Tour de France Femme.

This year's race begins in the Netherlands and may pass through Belgium early on, but will finish in the hometown of Musick, who has been the top French hope since the event began three years ago.

In the last three stages, the race returns to France and heads into the Alps for the first time.

This combination may be a nightmare for sprinters, but for Mujic, the chance to chase victory at the top of this climb, especially if he can win yellow, is the holy grail.

"I've always dreamed of the Alpe d'Huez in the Tour de France," he said.

"Sure, in my dreams I want to win the Alpe d'Huez. But it will be a game of legs." [I want to do well there and get the best result for the team and myself.

While many of his rivals were at the Paris Olympics, Mujic trained at altitude with his team.

Missing out on her home country's quadrennial event was undoubtedly a blow, but given that the race would pass through her home town on stages 6 and 7, it was certainly her main goal.

"In the beginning, I was disappointed that I didn't make it to the Olympics," she said. But I focused on the positive aspects of this decision, and I think it's better for my preparation."

That preparation is still important this year. She finished eighth overall in 2022, but had to abandon the race due to illness before the 2023 mountains. Musich has big goals for the 2024 Tour, including beating Voerling at La Vuelta Femenina. "It was really great to win, especially in front of Demi," Mujic said. I beat her once, so I can beat her again."

He is confident that he can win the Tour again.

That confidence means Mujic can start this year's French Grand Tour with ambitions of an overall podium. She is co-leader with Cecilie Uttrup-Ludwig in the FDJ-Suez, but her role could change during the race.

Mujic was caught up in an echelon on stage 4 of La Vuelta and finished 5th overall.

"My goal now is to lose as little time as possible in the first three stages.

Success in the 2024 Tour de France femme is "either a stage win or a really good overall win," but of course the ultimate dream is yellow.

"We have high ambitions because the Tour de France is always a special season," said FDJ Suez manager Stephane Delcourt.

"Every year we want success in the Tour de France for our sponsors, for our partners, and for our fans.

"We have a dream. We have a plan.

"Maybe not this year, maybe not next year. We know that our rivals are really, really strong, but we are also really strong."
