Guillaume Martin has signed a two-year contract with the team and will ride for Groupama-FDJ starting in 2025. The Frenchman will leave Cofidis, where he spent five seasons, including two top-10 finishes in the Tour de France.
In other transfer news on Thursday, it was announced that Axel Jingle will also leave Cofidis at the end of the season to join Visma Lease-a-Bike. Cofidis, meanwhile, announced the acquisition of Dylan Theuns from Israel Premier Tech until 2025.
"Frank Vandenbroucke was the last to win the Monument with Cofidis and I will do everything in my power to reach the podium in such a race," Teuns said.
Martin's departure from Cofidis, which has been actively rumored in recent months, was almost confirmed in a recent interview with Le Monde, in which he highlighted the shortcomings of the team's equipment.
Groupama-FDJ confirmed Martin's arrival on Thursday, the first day the team could announce a deal for 2025. With the retirement of Thibaut Pinot last year and the departure of young hope Lenny Martinez in the spotlight, the addition of Martín will bring an important figure to the team.
"For the upcoming season I felt the need for a change of scenery and the desire to discover a new environment. Groupama-FDJ is the right team to continue my career with. I feel I still have room for improvement and this team will give me the means to progress to the highest level."
Martin raced as a stagiaire for FDJ in 2014, but the following spring he won the Liege-Bastogne-Liege under 23 Despite this, he received no contract offer from Marc Madiot's team. In fact, Martin did not receive an offer from any French team and crossed the border in 2016 to turn professional with Wanty in Belgium.
"Finding a team was really complicated," Martin told Cycling News in 2020. 'FDJ took me on as a stagiaire, but the following year there was no news or explanation. The first offer came from Wanty and it came in October. In hindsight, that was the best thing that ever happened to me."
After four seasons with Wanty, Martin moved to Cofidis in 2020, with highlights including eighth in the 2021 Tour, tenth in the 2023 Tour, the 2020 Vuelta a España mountain prize, and the 2022 Tour de Ain overall.
Martín is the second newcomer to be confirmed by Groupama-FDJ for 2025. The team has already announced that Peace Race winner Bleuk Laurent will compete on the World Tour next year from the development team.
