French Fries, Techno Dancing, and Family Time - Remco Evenpole Celebrates Olympic Success

Lemko Evenpoel enjoyed french fries and mayonnaise late into the night in Paris, danced to techno music, and celebrated a lot with family, friends, and teammates.

After crossing the finish line in the shade of the Eiffel Tower, posing with his bike and "dialing in" his victory gesture, Evenpoel broke down in tears as the Belgian national anthem blared during the medal ceremony. Evenepoel also held his two gold medals and took a special photo with his wife, Oumi, who brought the time trial gold medal from Belgium for the historic moment.

Following a series of media relations, Evenepoel was congratulated by his fellow Belgians as he returned to the Olympic village. Later, he and his teammates served as special hosts of Sporza's evening sports chat show "Paris by Night," recounting key moments from the race.

The athletes then moved to the Olympic House in Belgium for further media obligations and celebrations. They were then finally able to meet their parents, who witnessed the end of the road race at a restaurant near the Eiffel Tower.

Evenpoel does not drink alcohol, so he enjoyed a cone of Belgian fries with mayonnaise while waiting for the interview to begin.

After midnight, he danced along as DJs Average Rob and Hebben Het Kan played "On Met La Patate," a "Belgian anthem" that combines Dutch and French. Evenpoel danced more on stage at the Belgian House and posted the video on his social media on Sunday.

His father, Patrick, revealed that the celebration lasted until 2 a.m., after which Evenpoel seemed to enjoy a quiet morning. There will no doubt be some celebration when Evenpoel returns to Belgium, but he also has time to savor his accomplishments and relax.

"The batteries are slowly starting to run out," Evenepoel told the media in Flanders on Saturday night.

"I want to use the next week to recover. I don't want to use my cell phone and I want to close my eyes as much as possible. For once I really don't want to do anything. I'll probably go somewhere, but I don't know where yet.

Next weekend, on Saturday, August 10, Evenpoel will participate in the RE.V Fun Ride, which has already been arranged, near his home in Chepdahl, southwest of Brussels. Several thousand people are currently expected to participate.

"He has to come back then, it's the most important race of the year," his father joked.

Soudal-QuickStep team manager Patrick Lefevere suggested that Evenpoel would return to racing at the Tour of Britain in early September. Race organizers told Cycling News that they would welcome the Belgian and mountain bike gold medalist Tom Pidcock. However, the final team and lineup have not yet been finalized.

Evenpoel will target the road world championships in Zurich in late September, with the possibility of riding the season-ending Italian Classics.

"It is almost two months away, but it will come soon," explained Evenpoel. 'Fortunately, we're going into the short rest period in good shape. First, it's time to celebrate and relax."
