According to Colombian news media outlet Antena 2, Colombian Daniel Martinez will miss this weekend's opening cycling competition at the Paris Olympics.
The individual time trial will take place this Saturday, July 27.
Martinez, the Colombian time trial champion and second overall behind Tadei Pogachar at the Giro d'Italia, had passport problems while trying to leave his home country for Paris.
According to reports, Martinez had to present his passport to the Canadian Embassy in order to obtain a visa to compete in the Quebec and Montreal GPs, but was unable to travel to Paris in time.
This is the second time that Martinez has missed the Olympics, having abstained from the Tokyo Olympics after contracting COVID-19.
However, there is still hope for the 28-year-old Martinez, who will also participate in the Vuelta a EspaƱa, which opens in Lisbon on August 17, according to reports, with a late call-up by Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe.
