Up close and personal with Mark Cavendish's record-breaking custom SLR, Willier Filante

Mark Cavendish has had only one goal since his 34th Tour de France stage win in 2021: to achieve the most stage wins in Tour de France history.

With 34 victories, Cavendish was tied with legend Eddy Merckx, but he made history this year with his 35th victory on stage 5 of the Tour, Saint Vurba.

The entire cycling world was overjoyed by the victory, with many riders taking to social media to celebrate the record-breaking stage win.

Cavendish unveiled his custom-painted Willières Philante SLR, which will roll through France before the Grande Pearl from Florence. The black frame radiates vibrant colors toward the front of the frame, fork, and bars. [The yellow and green symbolize the jersey he wore in the Tour de France; in 2016, Cavendish won the first stage and took the yellow jersey for one day. Meanwhile, in 2011 and 2021, he eventually won the overall points prize and wore the green jersey for a number of days.

Black, blue, and red are the remaining colors of the UCI World Championship rainbow band that Cavendish won in Copenhagen in 2011.

The Willières Filante SLR is one of two bikes on Cavendish's Astana Kazakstan team and is responsible for being the team's dedicated aero bike. The Filante is undeniably an aero race machine, but it is an out-and-out aero bike and straddles the line between a more versatile all-rounder.

Willières even states that the Filante SLR can be built to reach the UCI minimum weight limit of 6.8 kg. With a custom paint job, the bike Cavendish used in the stage weighed close to 7.6 kg,

and the bike was also built with a custom paint job.
