Marta Cavalli (FDJ-SUEZ) was taken to the hospital on Friday after being struck by a car during a training run near her home in northern Italy.
Cavalli was riding with one other person in the Pizzighettoone area when they were struck by a car at a roundabout.
According to Tuttobici and SpazioCiclismo, the Italian rider fell hard and was taken to a Cremona hospital complaining of neck and back pain.
According to Il Giorno, the two cyclists were riding on State Route 234 when the crash occurred. The cause of the accident is under investigation. The passenger was not struck by the car and was not injured.
Cavalli, a former Italian road champion, was the overall winner of the 2023 CIC-Tour Féminin International des Pyrénées. She has competed in only four events this year and abandoned after two stages at La Vuelta Femenina in April for health reasons. She is not on the roster for next week's Giro d'Italia women's race.
