Tom Pidcock, Josh Tarling, Stevie Williams, and Fred Wright will compete as Team GB in the Paris Olympics road race in August.
GB is one of five countries, along with France, Denmark, Belgium, and Slovenia, to field a four-rider squad thanks to the 2023 UCI rankings, making it the largest British cycling delegation ever to be sent to the Olympics.
The British men's road team was revealed when the British Olympic Association (BOA) announced the first 20 cyclists who will participate in the Olympic Games, which begin on Friday, July 26. Also announced were the mountain bike, track endurance, and track sprint events.
The delegation includes stars from a variety of disciplines, with Pidcock also set to defend his MTB title at the 2021 Tokyo Games and Tarling making up half of the road time trial delegation.
European ITT champion Ethan Hayter has just become British champion on the road. Hayter has moved to the track team and will be looking to improve on his silver medal from Tokyo by winning gold in the team pursuit.
Hayter will run on the track with Charlie Tanfield, Ollie Wood, Dan Biggum, and Ethan Vernon of Israel Premier Tech as Great Britain tries to dethrone Italy, the defending Team Pursuit champions. Hayter's road teammate Filippo Ganna and Giro d'Italia sprint star Jonathan Milano (Lidl-Trek) will lead the charge.
Perhaps the biggest star of the GB track representatives announced so far is the women's sprint team. World individual sprint champion Emma Finucane will make her Olympic debut alongside debutant Sophie Capewell and the experienced Katie Marchant.
Jack Carlin will lead the men's sprint, along with Ed Lowe and Hamish Turnbull, looking to add to their silver and bronze medals from Tokyo.
Last to be announced are the athletes who, along with Pidcock, will be competing in the MTB competition on Elancourt Hill. On the men's side, reigning world champion Pidcock will be joined by U23 world champion Charlie Aldridge, while on the women's side, Commonwealth champion Evie Richards will lead the ambition along with up-and-comer Ella Maclean-Howell.
"Team GB has a rich tradition in Olympic cycling and we are excited to be taking the biggest cycling team in history to Paris," said Mark England MBE, Team GB's team principal. [Along with experienced Olympians and Olympic medalists such as Katie (Merchant), Tom (Pidcock), Ethan (Hayter), and Jack (Carlin), it is exciting to have the next generation of cyclists competing for Team GB in Paris. I am confident that all of the athletes selected today will put in great performances this summer."
British Cycling will announce its women's road race team, women's track endurance team, and BMX team on July 4
