"The biggest challenge of my career" - Ellen van Dijk in the fight against time to recover for the Paris Olympics
Ellen van Dijk and Elisa Balsamo took a positive step into their training, focusing on hosting the Paris Olympics after they suffered injuries on May 6 and 5, respectively.

A Dutch woman is still in repair after she broke her ankle in a training crash and jumped into training at home with a cast on her right foot after successful surgery. But in reflection, the experienced Van Dijk calls it a "miracle" that she has not suffered more serious injuries.

"To be honest, the last two weeks have not been easy for me. 6/3 Crashed during a training ride on a TT bike. I hit a small trailer at full speed. After all, the only serious injury was my broken ankle," Van Dijk said in an Instagram post.

"It was actually a small miracle, it could have been so much worse." But I needed surgery and couldn't ride my bike for a while."

Van Dijk has spent 37 days back in the time trial of the Paris Olympics on the 27th, but she's going to give the glorious Palmares everything to try to add an Olympic gold medal. It is not certain whether the 37-year-old will start, but she used the lessons she learned from returning to form after giving birth to her first child to her advantage

"In my mind, it is certainly possible." But I still can not fully train. I wouldn't know for sure until about three weeks from now. I saw how quickly everything came back during pregnancy. This is a completely different situation, but I have gained a lot of hope and confidence from it," Van Dijk told the In Het Wiel podcast.

"I still don't know if my dreams are shattered. I have already decided: this is the biggest challenge in my career.

"My only focus is to recover as soon as possible and return to the norm as soon as possible. Of course, it's not ideal, but the situation is what it is. Just trying to get to Paris in the best possible way.

Van Dijk's Lidl-Trek trade teammate Balsamo likewise, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, this Saturday, in a return to the possible race in the Italian National Championship road race in June22, the approach to the Olympics

The former world champion will meet at La Vuelta A Burgos Féminas on the 16th. He broke his nose bone and second metacarpal bone in a horrific crash with Sofia Bertizzolo and was training with a brace on his left hand.

Gazzetta reported that she has now removed this and returned to training on the track in Monticiari with the Olympics in mind. If she can regain her fitness, Balsamo is expected to compete across road and track events in Paris.
