A new twist for the Hill of Willunga, under the route announced for the 25th edition of the tour

Santos Tour Down Under route will add some old favorites and new additions in 2025.The South Australian race, which began in 1999, celebrates the 25th running of the event.

The race will begin with the Women's World Tour opener, which departs from Brighton and heads in the direction of a likely sprint finish at Aldinga on Friday 1/17, and on Saturday will move to a stage that ends at the top of Willanga Hill, the iconic climb crowned winner in 2024.  Race Director Stuart O'Grady said in a statement: "We have witnessed incredible vulnerability and emotion this year with many athletes, especially Sarah Gigante, winning at Willunga Hill.By 2025, it will be the first time for women to tackle it 2 times," he said.

The down-under women's tour ends with an undulating stage through Stirling, which can still provide some GC mods opportunities if the overall fight is tight after Willanga.

Then the attention will turn to the Men's World Tour race, but the audience will already have had a taste of action in down under the classic criteria on Saturday night 1/18.

"We designed the route to challenge the riders and give the fans the best opportunity to enjoy all the racing action up close," O'Grady said in a statement.

"Some of the exciting new elements of the men's race will be important for success in this edition of the Santos tour below, as they descend Willanga's face for the first time and the smart team's tactics of climbing Notts Hill, Pound Road with two ascents followed."

Stage 1 from March 21 outlook on Tuesday, the new Pound Road climb will deliver the first of two stages that will provide an opportunity for sprinters before it could open a GC fight on Stage 3. After Stage 4 to Victor Harbor, Stage 5 could determine the whole with the descent of Willanga Hill and 2 ascents. 

The last offer for the Sprinters paid tribute to the history of the race as it ended the down-under Men's Tour at the Adelaide City Circuit on Sunday, which was a stage in 1999 when the first edition of the race was expected to draw a crowd of 15,000 but eventually 40,000. Packed the street.

In the meantime, in the 24th edition of the event and 2 years of COVID-19 interruptions, the race grew – with the introduction of women's events – and the crowd grew even more. South Australia also released an analysis of this year's events when it released the 2025 course.

"The economic benefits that this iconic race has brought to the state over the course of 25 years have been outstanding," said Zoe Bettison, the state's Tourism Minister. "This year's race attracted a total attendance of 770,600 and injected more than 87 million into our state's economy, while showcasing the region of South Australia to millions around the world through broadcasting."
