The 2025 Vuelta a España is scheduled to start in Piedmont as the Italian region hosts all three grand tours and more

Vuelta a España coach Javier Guillen confirmed that Piedmont in northwestern Italy is the main candidate to host the start of the 2025 Vuelta a España.

It marks the 6th foreign start in the history of the Vuelta and will be the first in Italy. In fact, if the Piedmont bid is successful, the Vuelta will start overseas for 3 consecutive years. This year's race is underway in Lisbon on 8/17, but Monaco was recently announced as a start site for 2026. American Sepp Kus won the 2023 Vuelta a España in 2023 after an internal rivalry with his team-mates at Jumbo Bismar.

Piedmont has invested heavily to attract major sporting events, especially cycling. In the region, the 2024 Giro d'Italia's Grande Partenza will be held, the stage end and stage start of the 2024 Tour de France, and perhaps the opening stage of the 2025 Vuelta a España. In Italy, there are also reports that the 2025 Tour de France will return to Italy for the stage finish, and the 2024 men's and women's Tour de la Venir will finish at the Colle Delle Finestre on a dirt road in Piedmont.

"It is true that the Piedmont region has declared and publicized its interest in hosting the start of 2025 and we can confirm that we are working on it," Guillén told AS.

"Italy is the cycling country that will host the start of the Tour de France again this year and we very much want it because we want the Vuelta to exist on its territory.

"There is discussion, there is intense work, and if everything goes well, there is great joy. When that happens, official confirmation will come from both sides, but I am very happy to say that the Vuelta and Piedmont are getting closer and closer.

Guillén indicated that confirmation of the start of Piedmont should be formalized before this year's Vuelta is underway in Portugal.

"It's not done yet, but we're on the line we want to move forward. The idea is to announce before La Vuelta 2024," he said.

The Piedmont region hosted the start of this year's Giro d'Italia, where the race began in Venaria Reale, outside Turin, and the summit ended in Oropa, Stage 2.

On May 4, RAI reported that the 2025 Vuelta will start from the Venaria Reale to Novara stage, the 2nd stage will finish at Alba and the race can proceed to Lange, the planned 3rd stage will end at Ceres and the 4th stage will start at Bussoleno, and it will be possible to finish at Lange. It was shown that he crossed to France after the second World War.

In addition to working on a foreign start, Guillen reiterated his interest in bringing the Vuelta to the Canary Islands for the first time since the race began in Tenerife in 1988.

Representatives of Tenerife and Gran Canaria met with the Vuelta's organizer, Unipublic, this year amid reports that the last 4 stages of the race in 2026 could be held in the Canary Islands. This hypothesis had previously surfaced in the 2017 race, but the plan did not materialize.

"This is one of our big challenges," Gyllenhaal said.1 "Further deepening our international influence will be a special national event.”
