In the 2024 fast and furious Unbound Gravel200, there was an unforgiving field where peanut butter mud dropped last year's field off the equation and piled up in both the professional men's and professional women's categories of the race at Gravel Heartland in Emporia, Kansas.
Conditions and tactics meant that the tufts stayed together much longer than usual, and the gap extended before and after the start of the pro women was a game changer. Riders in the women's category had the opportunity to really race against each other without any complexity or influence from riders outside the category.
With the clear air, the dynamic of the women's race has completely changed, and the finish has created a new scenario. Women, who were often dispersed through a much larger male field, headed for the final mile in the lead group of 9, and the race ended in a sprint. Claiming the biggest victory in the gravel world was part-time racer and full-time doctoral student Rosa Krezer (MAAP-Rose).
In the men's race, Lachlan Morton (EF Education-EasyPost) and Chad Haga (PAS racing) spent about 80 miles seamlessly during the break, but had to settle for a 203-mile (327km) race in the final dash, making it 2. Australia's Morton leaned on the experience of a technical run to Emporia and with his fourth participation in the race everything fell perfectly into place.
The winners may have been crowned and the race report written, but now you can take a closer look at how the race took place in an unbound gravel highlight package for the length of time you just dropped.
