Former road pros Laurens ten Dam and Thomas Dekker described how emergency showers were arrested at this year's Unbound Gravel countdown.
As reported by Wielerflits Ten Dam and Dekker in a recent episode of their LiveSlowRideFast podcast, they said the incident happened in the town of Marietta after getting on the train.
When two Dutch racers tried to "freshen up" before eating, they were reported to the police, who arrested them and took them to a local prison. They spent the night in prison before being released.
According to Tendum, a strange series of events occurred the day after Decker flew for an unbound race, 2 people were killed in the supermarket's usual stopover Poi
However, they discovered that a recent tornado destroyed both the supermarket building and the department store – perhaps because of a fire. Well they are usually used to change out of the cycling kit – next door.
Their original idea of getting food at the supermarket failed and they switched to the idea of having lunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant.
"It was still pretty early, we had completed a three-hour training ride and now we were pretty hungry. I wanted to take a little cold shower, so Thomas threw water over me," Tendum explained.
"We stood between the car doors and took a shower. Suddenly I hear a man screaming very loudly. But we just wanted to refresh for the Mexicans.
The two were handcuffed and searched before being taken to a nearby prison. The two said they were arrested under the law of "inappropriate behavior in public spaces."
"We were already cold, so we were given something to wear blankets and eat. It all took a very long time and fingerprints were taken. We had to wear orange suits too, we were really inmate Lawrence and inmate Thomas," Decker said. After an overnight spell in a police cell, the two were eventually released after paying a保釈185 bail fee, followed by an unbound gravel race.
Following their "preparation" for unbound gravel, Dekker then finished 42nd and Dekker 50th. On the plus side, they said on the LiveSlowRideFast podcast that they do not have to return to the US court over any potential charges.
