Race As part of a powerful British national team that gathered riders from 4 different women's world teams, Lizzie Deignan finished 1st on stage 4 of the Tour of Britain Women, but Deignan will still be on the podium at llandudno and will wear a blue QOM jersey on stage 2 around Wrexham .
"It was entirely composed at the moment. I was in a really good position on both climbs and thought, "If I'm there, I might as well,"" Deignan said.
On stage, she and that week's teammate Anna Henderson were pulled apart as part of the nine-strong front group on the second classified climb. Until then, on days of windswept through North Wales, the breakaway had not lasted very long.
"It was disappointing because it was actually a headwind the whole race. It kind of became a bit more negative than the race lent itself that the course is, but we still ran away on that second climb. It was actually really cool, really beautiful and amazing," Deignan said of the stage.
Back in 2019, the 35-year-old already made the most of the Welsh roads, winning Billswells in Stage 5 of the Women's Tour, leading the GC and securing an overall win at Pembry Country Park the next day. Dagnan also enjoyed the atmosphere of the race as he passed the schools and nurseries where the children were cheering for the Peloton.
"It's all about inspiring the next generation, and the best way to do it is to get in front of people and make sure they don't necessarily have a female cycle
."
