ZLM Tour: Van Uden Nets second sprint wins in three days

Casper Van Uden (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) was the 2nd winner on the ZLM tour and repeated Stage 2 wins.

The Dutchman was fortunate that, at the end of a flat, exposed day race around the Dutch border town of Rosendahl, a day's break finally collapsed within sight of the finish line.

However, he then made the most of his strength to lead the sprint from the front from about 300 meters and revealed his efforts to go ahead to the line.

The 2nd were Simon Dehairs (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Giovanni Lonardi (3rd Polti-Kometa). The two tried to pass Van Uden near the finish, but it turned out to be impossible.

Belgian Rune Herregodts (Intermarché-Wanty), GC leader since Stage 1TT, maintained overall control with only 1 day race left.

With a ferocious start on the Dutch flatlands, multiple echelons formed over the first 100 kilometres and no clear pattern appeared until the Tenrider Break was cleared.

Ryan Kamp (Tudor Pro Cycling), Max Kanter (Astana・Kazakstan), Davide Gabburo and Filippo Magli (VF group・Bardiana CSF-Faizane), Erik Fetter (Polti Kometa), Michiel Lambrech (Bingoal-WB Devo), Niccolo Bonifazio (Corratec-Vini Fantini), Elmar Abma (Astana-Kazakstan), Davide Gabburo and Filippo Magli (VF group-Bardiana CSF-Faizane), Erik Fetter (Polti Kometa), Michiel Lambrech (Bingoal-WB Devo), Niccolo Bonifazio (Corratec-Vini Fantini), Elmar Abma (Astana-Kazakstan), Davide Gabburo and Filippo Magli (VF group-Bardiana CSF-Faizane), (Corratec-Vini Fantini), Niccolo Bonifazio (Corratec-Vini Fantini), Niccolo Bonifazio (Corratec-Vini Fantini), Niccolo Bonifazio (Corratec-Vini Fantini), Niccolo Bonifazio (Corratec-Vini Fantini), Niccolo Bonifazio (Corratec-Vini Fantini) krijnsen (parkhotel Valkenburg) and David Dekker (Arkea-Vini Fantini) B&B Hotels Continentale) carved out a gap of about 30 seconds and hit the finish circuit.

However, entering the 16-kilometer circuit, Kanter tried to decide by himself, and the collaboration in the 10-rider group was completely shattered, and eventually saw Abma and Lambrecht trying to form a group of 3 with Gabro. That move could not stick, and Intermarché-Wanty continued to squeeze the gap between break and bunch further. A slow attack with four kilometers to go by Klinsen on a constantly twisted road that runs between numerous waterways caused an initial response from David Decker, but in the end, it was Magli who crossed the bridge across. At the Peloton, often led directly by Herregodts himself, was clearly visible just a few hundred meters away, but was always going to be touch-and-go, and the two chose to work tactically rather than start playing it.

Finally swept away by the Alpecin-Deceuninck-led peloton at 300 meters, the bunch had little time to organize themselves for the sprint. But in the end, Van Uden was able to claim his fourth victory of the season in the last ditch, a supremely powerful acceleration for the line brooked no opposition.
