The 3-time World champion in the time trial is targeting the time trial of the Paris Olympics scheduled for 7/27.

"Of course, I'm incredibly disappointed. All my efforts are focused on the Olympics, and this is the last thing you want to happen. I have a good relationship with the medical and performance staff at both Lidl-Trek and KNWU and will do everything I can to make it fit at the start in Paris," van Dijk said in the team's press release.

In addition to competing in the TT, van Dijk was named to the road racing team along with Demi Volarling (also racing the time trial), Lorena Vives and Marianne Voss.

National Coach Loes Gunnewijk said in the KNWU release: "First of all, it is of course very disappointing for Ellen. The game is very special and has been her goal for quite some time. We will support Ellen as much as possible on the path to recovery and we will look at the options step by step. The reserve will be notified, but we will make a joint decision later.
