The Dutch Federation announced the team for the 2024 Olympic Road cycling event and named Dylan van Baarle and Daan Hoole to support the road race leader Mathieu van der Poel.
In Demi Volling, Ellen van Dijk, Lorena Weaves and 2012 Olympic champion Marianne Voss will take part in the road race.
Vollering, Van Dijk and Hoole will also compete in the individual time trial in Paris.
The Dutch team passed a host of riders higher than Hoole and Van Baarle, including sprinters Olav Kooij and Dylan Groenewegen, Fabio Jakobsen and Thymen Arensman, who were third in the Giro d'Italia stage 14 time trial.
Koos Moerenhout co-led van Baarle and built the team entirely around Van der Poel, the current road world champion.
"Everyone knows that I am delighted that Mathieu has made the choice to start a road race only in Paris," Moerenhout said in a press statement from KNWU. Van der Poel was considering racing for a mountain bike event, but abandoned those plans on May 12.
"With a clear focus and a decent route for the game, we will go for success with this team again. The course guides riders through the streets around Paris, and climbs around Montmartre in particular offer opportunities. Daan Hoole will support both leaders and participate in the time trial.
Loes Gunnewijk was responsible for the selection of the women's team, choosing the top three Dutch riders - Demi Voreling, Lorena Vieves and Marianne Vos - and van Dijk was influenced by her one-year leave for maternity leave. This year, van Dijk won the Tour de Normandy along with 3 stages and the Vuelta EspaƱa Femenina stage.
"Obviously, the abundance of the Netherlands now has been a difficult choice for a wide range of riders," Gunnewijk said.
"These four women complement each other and have absolute qualities due to orange flames and medals. The recent success of the rider highlights all this. We look very confident in our preparation with this team and there is nothing better than gold."
