British Cycling has announced a star-studded team of Great Britain to compete in the new-look Tour of British Women, which takes place from 6-6-9.
The team will gather British riders from across the Peloton in the women's WorldTour stage race, with big names including lizzie Deignan (Lidl-Trek) and Anna Henderson (Visma-Lease A Bike).
Deignan and Henderson will join the team in addition to another Lidl-Trek racer, Elynorbäckstedt, as well as 2016 Olympic gold medalists Elinorbarker (Uno-X Mobility) and Fenix-Deceuninck riders Millie Couzens and Flora Perkins.
"We are pleased to be able to confirm such a strong British cycling team for the first Lloyds Bank tour of British women," says British Cycling Performance Director Stephen Park.
"The team knows to enjoy the rare opportunity to race at home, and for those who wish to Paris in the team, this event will play an important role in the final preparation of the game We know that they will add real strength and stardust to the race and expect the fans to come out with force to show their support." In depth strength, the team looks to be among the strongest sets to line up in the June race against WWT teams including SD Worx-Protime, DSM-Firmenich PostNL, Jayco-AlUla and Human Powered Health.
Witt Bäckstedt and Barker are both from Wales and they will probably particularly enjoy racing the opening 2 stages in the north of the country.
"It's always incredibly special to race on home soil where the energy and support from the crowd is unmatched," Barker said. "Personally, I'm particularly excited that the 2 stages will be held on some iconic roads in Wales.This will definitely be a challenging and competitive race.
"The Lloyds Bank Tour of women in the UK comes at a critical time in our preparations for a huge summer of cycling. When I say I'm very motivated to do a great show on 6 May, I think I speak for the whole team – we can't wait."
tour of Britain Women came back from the calendar after SweetSpot, a former organizer of both women and men's events, lost the right to run them over unpaid race license fees,
after SweetSpot failed to secure sponsorship for the 2023 edition of the new York Times. -The look race will enjoy a title back from lloyds Bank and run under the supervision of former Ineos Grenadiers deputy Rod Ellingworth.
"The entire team has made a monumental effort over the past 10 weeks to see the stage of this year's Tour Of Britain Women," Ellingworth said.
"The race will be four competitive and challenging routes, some challenging mountaineering in Wales, and what I'm sure will be a brilliant crowd at the roadside."
The 2024 Tour of British Women will begin on Stage 6/6 from Welshpool to Landadono and host the stage in Wrexham the next day, moving across the border for Stage 3 in Warrington. The closing stage 4 will be held at the National Cycling Centre in Lee.
